Individual pages with image descriptions:

The front cover of issue 1 of an 18+ zine titled "it's art because i said it is" dated Autumn 2025. It was originally dated Autumn 2024, but the 4 is crossed through and a 5 written in next to it. The background is stylised as off-white parchment paper. This issue's theme is "outside the box". There are illustrations of cats in boxes around the theme name which has a roughly drawn double lined orange oval around it. The zine name is on illustrations styled to look like brown and coloured ripped paper, which are layered in two sections. The top section reads “IT’S ART” in capital letters. The bottom section reads “because i said it is” in lowercase letters. There is a black, yellow, and pink arrow pointing from the bottom section to the top. At the bottom of the page is the text “an omniarts gb zine”. There are black hand drawn style corner frames in the top right and bottom left, stars in the top left and a heart shape bottom right.Contents page which has an array of doodles all over the blank space. Text reads: "This zine is curated and published by OmniArts GB, a queer and disabled led, non-profit organisation." Title: "Why this Zine?" Text reads: "Whilst society values art of all forms highly, it also sends the message that there is “good and bad” art. We don’t agree with this! We believe everyone is a creative being! That’s why we decided to create this zine, in the hope that it helps to remove some of the barriers society has put in place to being creative. The aim of the “It’s Art Because I Said It Is” zine is to encourage everyone, even those who feel that aren’t creative, to just give it a go!" There are doodles across the page of hearts, stars, crayons, and a text graphic which reads "be part of our community". Smaller text at the bottom reads: "Zine theme chosen by the OmniArts Queer Creatives group members. More info about this group can be found on page 22."A pencil drawing on a square of white paper of a box with the word box written around the edge in various fonts with the B of each instance of the word being attached to the edge of the drawing. A very faint image of a cat can be seen inside the box. Behind the paper is the word "box" in various digital fonts overlapping each other creating a background.A poem titled "Box Undefined" by G Francis (he/him). Text of poem reads: "What is a box? What is a box? Four sides and a lid, And sometimes it locks. I see a box, Four sides and a lid, Filled up with water, Rocks, snails, and fish. Another box here, That plays me a song, With its black and white keys, While I sing along. Could this be a box? It’s sealed with a zip, Packed tightly with clothes, For the next family trip. Does a box need a lid? This one’s filled up with dirt, With a beautiful flower, Or maybe a herb. This box does have a lid, But very small sides, I can open it up, To search, shop, and type. So what is a box? What should be inside it? How can I get outside If I can’t define it?" Next to each section of the text is an image relating to the words. First stanza is a pacdlock. Second stanza is a splash of water. Third stanza is musical notes. Fourth stanza is a zip. Fifth stanza is a pile of dirt. Sixth stanza is an internet search window. Final stanza is a door. The Art: "Palette Cleanser" Cleaning out my painting palette always leaves little circles of colour. I've wondered what it would be like to use this as art. Outside the box felt like the perfect prompt to explore this. Maybe the paint is meant to get increasingly chaotic towards the bottom, maybe I did it randomly. Who really knows. Is this trash glued to a canvas? Nah it's art, I say so. A thumbnail of the image is shown with the following image description: A square canvas on a small easel placed on a desk. The canvas has 4 columns and 5 rows of domes of dried paint. The paint get decreasingly circular towards the bottom of the canvas. The Artist: Ashleigh Blair (she/her) I bounce around different mediums but my go to it is model painting. Whether that's 3D models I've designed, or gaming miniatures. Instagram: mesozoicartsA bigger version of the art described on the previous page. More details of the art: The domes of paint have various cracks in them, some have a hold in the centre. The colours of the paint are: gold, white, black, orange, yellow, brown, grey mixed with white and some red, green, purple, and a rainbow bit. Description from previous page: Image shows a square canvas on a small easel placed on a desk. The canvas has 4 columns and 5 rows of domes of dried paint. The paint get decreasingly circular towards the bottom of the canvas. The Art: "Outside The Box" A thumbnail of the image is shown with the following image description: A cartoon illustration of a classic magician sawing in half, but where the top half has climbed out of the box to sit upright atop it, staring at her own feet, still holding the saw and looking confused. The Artist: Stacy Smith (she/her) Professionally unwell but with many artistic hobbies. www.the4thCircle.co.uk A photo of a woman with cherry red hair, wearing black rimmed glasses, a grey button up top and bright orange sleeveless jacket performing the linking rings on stage.A bigger version of the art described on the previous page. More details of the art: The magician is white with long red hair. She is wearing a dark grey blouse, orange waistcoat, and dark grey skirt and shoes. There is a spotlight shining down on her and the box. The box is red with gold edges, and the two halves of it are on a wooden platform with wheels. The inside of the box with the top half of the magician on can be seen, and it is empty. Description from previous page: Image shows a cartoon illustration of a classic magician sawing in half, but where the top half has climbed out of the box to sit upright atop it, staring at her own feet, still holding the saw and looking confused. The Art: “Wheee!” by Vox Margo (they/them) @nonbinarycreative I drew this a long time ago on a whim, and it makes me laugh every time I see it. I feel like it fits the theme “Outside The Box” nicely in multiple ways - the concept, the content and the execution of the art! My original plan was to give the person clothes, but once I’d got this far, the dopamine disappeared, so I abandoned it. I had the idea in my head and started by drawing the table and chairs, but anatomy is confusing to me, so I looked up a tutorial on how to draw a person doing a roly-poly and... well... proportions are not my strong suit either! Image shows a drawing done in black, red and blue pen. There is a circular table with the words "the gender table" written on it. Around the table are six red chairs with rough scribbles colouring them in. To the left of this is a drawing of a person who appears to be naked, laying on their shoulders with their legs in the air. their proportions are bigger than would allow them to sit on one of the chairs, and their shoulders and upper arms seem to be too big for the rest of their body. A line is coming from the face with the text "wheee!" written next to it.The Art: “Grow Free” A thumbnail of the image is shown with the following image description: A painting. Acrylic on canvas. In the centre of the painting is a box on fire. Around it grows a tree or vine with purple blue flowers with yellow accents growing off. At the top of the image In black is the text "fuck the box" at the bottom "grow free". The background is a thin purple showing the grain of the canvas. The Artist: Ember (she/her) Ember is a trans woman from South London. She is interested in queer topics, scifi, gaming and role play. She has previously worked in only words but has begun to expand more in to visual mediums such as photography and paint.A bigger version of the art described on the previous page. More details of the art: Pencil marks can be seen behind the purple background and text that read "fuck the box" painted in black. The pencil marks spell out "fuck the box" in straight line bubble writing, with the word box being on a second line, just touching the top of the flames painted over the box. The flames are engulfing the box entirely, and are bright yellow, red, and orange colours. Description from previous page: Image shows a painting. Acrylic on canvas. Parts of the collage are fuzzy and not in good resolution, this depicts the mindstate of the artist/poet very well. The poem is made with fridge magnet words and reads: “autumn-ing is found green to red a dancing bird host see-s earth friend glitter fly-s on in lazy wander’d beautiful memory these tree-s our jewel garden” The Artist: Robin Spain (he/him) Instagram: @robingoblinn and @mystery_egg_A bigger version of the art described on the previous page. More details of the art: the poem is on a background of three black ovals joined together with a thick grey border around them.
