Testimonial from Mia Violet with a photo of her.

Text reads: As a trans and bisexual author, I've found OmniArts' Queer Creative group extraordinarily helpful on many levels. Performance has always been a weaker area of my skillset (despite the fact that public speaking is part of my job!).
The group has gently challenged my comfort level, and helped me learn new skills which I have both carried forward into my current carer, and used to expand into new pursuits as a queer creative.
Meanwhile, I've also learnt new things about queer history due to the excellent and entertaining teaching.

Most importantly, I've made a wonderful group of new friends in an environment that feels very safe and afforming as both a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, and as an artist.

The group launched in January 2020, initially as a ‘Queer Theatre’ course, consisting of 12 weeks. The course covered key performers and playwrights, and gave members a chance to explore different styles through practical styles. The finale being an opportunity to perform a text they had been particularly impacted or inspired by.

With the inevitable cancellation of our marvellous finale, we moved online where we’ve been running the sessions ever since! This change meant we could reach members from across the country, and connect on different experiences, perspectives and make new friends.

Towards the end of 2020, Ellie was keen to expand the content and direction of the group, and renamed it as ‘Queer Creatives’ as we started to broaden the course into queer art (digital and paintings), poetry, photography, and much more.

We hold 2-3 discussion hours a year that are either unit (we call them biscuits) focused or a topical issue to provide a safe space. An understandable large section of our sessions are catch ups and guest pet appearances! We are now into our sixth biscuit and fourth year, continuing to explore queerness beyond sexuality and gender.

Queer Creatives is the only group within the UK that gives members the opportunity to explore queerness in multiple mediums as well as offer spaces for critical discussions within the community.

To find out more about our policies on inclusivity, accessibility and how we run our groups, please see our policies for all our groups below. When you join a group, you will be sent an agreement, which has these policies, and some extra Queer group-specific policies as well.
