Bedroom Princess by Mia Violet

A dressmaker's mannequin, draped in pink silky fabric, with 3 photos, and2 pieces of paper with text on them. The text isn’t legible in this photo. The pictures are each of a white woman with long red hair, Mia, taking photos in various fun poses. In each picture she is wearing the same outfit of an off the shoulder top, and blue floral skirt. Behind the mannequin a pair of rainbow wings and a handbag are visible on the floor.

Bedroom Princess is my celebration of the experience of joyfully customising our appearance in the privacy and safety of our bedroom.

As queer people many of us have struggled and suppressed ourselves when it comes to our appearance. We’ve had to hide and make ourselves smaller in day to day life. But the bedroom is the ultimate safe space for creative self-expression.

With makeup, clothes, and a snapping phone for selfies in our hand, we’re able to fully discover and celebrate who we are.

These photos capture those moments of personal and private freedom.

One of the gallery contributors, Mia Violet, sitting posed in a large ornate throne with a golden frame and red curvy cushioned back and arms, in front of a white wall. She is wearing a silky black dress and leggings. Her shoulder length hair is dyed red and she has red lipstick and silver-blue eyeshadow. She is also wearing a necklace and multiple bracelets.
